  1. "Andromeda" is a song by alternative rock virtual band Gorillaz, featuring American rapper D.R.A.M., the song was released on 23 March 2017. It was released as the fourth single from their fifth studio album Humanz.

    Composition and recording

Damon Albarn has said that "Andromeda" is a song very personal to him; Andromeda itself is the name of a Colchester nightclub that Albarn often visited in his youth. Speaking on the Andromeda nightclub, Albarn said: "It was the only place in the whole of the town that played soul music, so there's a connection between the music I used to hear there and the feeling and spirit of the music I was trying to evoke."
"Andromeda" was dedicated to Ethel, mother of Albarn's longtime partner Suzi Winstanley, who died while Albarn was writing the song. Ethel's death reminded Albarn of Bobby Womack, whom Albarn had collaborated with for Gorillaz' Plastic Beach and Womack's The Bravest Man in the Universe, prior to Womack's death in June 2014. The sentimentality Albarn felt for lost family and friends was instrumental in the creation of "Andromeda", with Albarn commenting on the song's message: "Take the worst possible outcome, be brave, and remember all the goodness that preceded that... all the beauty that preceded that."
Albarn also stated that after a conversation with producer The Twilite Tone, he tried to evoke the sound of Michael Jackson's 1983 single "Billie Jean" from his iconic Thriller and Hall and Oates' single "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)", from their album Private Eyes. Twilite Tone produced the song, while Albarn took care of lyrics, The song features rapper D.R.A.M., who also has uncredited backing vocals on the single "We Got the Power". D.R.A.M. originally had a more prominent feature on the song, with a full chorus and verse, however, Albarn stripped the vocals back as the song felt more complete. At one point, the song's name was "I Can't Go for Billie Jean", as a reference to the aforementioned Michael Jackson song.
Albarn also revealed that there were alternate versions of the song that he felt "Just didn't work out", such as a collaboration with English singer Rag'n'Bone Man, who appears on the song "The Apprentice" on the deluxe version of the album and a failed collaboration with French singer-songwriter Christine and the Queens, however, he ultimately opted for the collaboration with D.R.A.M.

  2. Gorillaz are an English virtual band created in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett. The band consists of four animated members: 2-D (lead vocals, keyboards), Murdoc Niccals (bass guitar), Noodle (guitar, keyboards) and Russel Hobbs (drums and percussion). These members are fictional and are not personas of any "real life" musicians involved in the project. Their fictional universe is explored through the band's music videos, as well as a number of other short cartoons. In reality, Albarn is the only permanent musical contributor, and the music is often a collaboration between various musicians. Writers and critics have described their music as alternative rock, Britpop, trip hop, hip hop, electronica, indie, dub, reggae and pop.

The band's 2001 debut album Gorillaz sold over seven million copies and earned them an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records as the Most Successful Virtual Band. It was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2001, but the nomination was later withdrawn at the band's request. Their second studio album Demon Days (2005) went six times platinum in the UK and double platinum in the US.[17][18][19] The band has won other awards, including one Grammy Award, two MTV Video Music Awards, an NME Award, three MTV Europe Music Awards, and have been nominated for nine Brit Awards.[20][21] The band's third studio album, Plastic Beach, was released in March 2010. Their fourth studio album called The Fall was released in December 2010 as a free download for fan club members, then in April 2011 as a physical release. After a six-year hiatus, Gorillaz announced their fifth studio album Humanz, which was released on 28 April 2017.

  3. "Andromeda"
    (feat. D.R.A.M)
    [2-D:]
When the passing looks to die for
Take it in your heart now, love her
    When the case is out
    And you're tired and sodden
    Take it in your heart
    Take it in your heart

    [D.R.A.M.:]
Back to when it was cool
    'Cause there's no substitute
    Who even knows the truth?
    The truth, the truth

    [2-D and D.R.A.M.:]
Take it in your heart now, love her
Take it in your heart, heart, heart, heart
    Take it in your heart
Take it in your heart, heart, heart, heart
    Where it all goes down

    [2-D:]
Outside cold and ghosting out with jet lag
I took it to the right man
    Took it all back
    When the courts were closing
    It was Bobby gracing
    I know that
I put it to the right man
    He put it back

    [D.R.A.M.:]
    Caught in your eyes
    Stacks of lights
    Come streaming back
Make it for the best times
    Growing pains, good times
    Good times, good times
    Good times, good times
    Good times, good times

    [2-D:]
Take it in your heart now, love her
Take it in your heart, heart, heart, heart
    Take it in your heart
    Take it in your heart
    Where it all goes down

    [2-D and D.R.A.M.:]
    Andromeda
    Andromeda, Andromeda
Take it in your heart now, love her
    Andromeda, Andromeda
    Andromeda, Andromeda
    Take it in your heart
    Take it in your heart
    Where it all goes d
